How to choose your bridal lingerie for your wedding dress?
The big day is coming soon, your wedding dress is almost ready and now comes the tie of the details. Amond several details, comes the choice of the lingerie you will wear for that big day.
How to choose the right bridal lingerie? What would you need? What kind of lingerie you would want and that would fit your dress?
To answer all those questions, it all starts with your wedding dress.
There are several styles of wedding dresses that each of them can have a different bodice. Let start with the skirt and the best panties to wear with.
The Skirt could be either :
- The A-line
- The mermaid
- The Ballgown
- The Sheath
Each of those dresses fits different body shape and will require different bridal lingerie. Here a little explanation of which lingerie shapes for which dresses and body.
For the skirt shape and the bridal panties style:
1. The A-line.
A-line skirt will tend to let you wear the style of bridal lingerie your normally like, either panties or tanga or string. The only question would be how thin is the fabric. Is the skirt is made in silk georgette for example with not much frill around the waist, you would need to look for a high waist style and not too tight to avoid the Michelin look on your hips.
2. The mermaid
The mermaid skirt is quite tight all along your thigh. You would not want panties that might create your panties line (unless your fabric is quite stiff). You might want to choose a girdle if you wish to have a very smooth line.
3. The ball gown
You are free to use whatever panties you would like. From the silk blue frill panties to some sheer lace tanga. No need to worry about panties line, they would not be seen.
You can be as creative as playful as you wish. You can wear a silk or lace garter belt for a beautiful look. You can opt for off white or white and no need to stick to the nude colour than lace dress requires. Have fun for you and for him.
4. The sheath
The Sheath dress is a very soft skirt that is most often do in silk cut in biais. It is a lovely dress but biais cut skirt can make it tricky to choose the right underwear as everything will show. Go for a G string (as small as possible) or a very thin tanga. Stay away from lace that will be visible.

Now for the bodice. It could be
- Strapless like a corset
- Bareback
- Half bareback
- The short or long sleeves dress with normal back
Each of those bodices will drive for the style of bridal lingerie bra you should wear.
1. Strapless like a corset
If your dress is strapless then it would be made with boning to support your bust. In theory, those dresses do not require any bra at all. They should be supporting all cup sizes as well. If your dress does not have many bonings on the top section of your dress, or if you are a size D plus and the corset section is very light, you would need to wear a bra. In that case, you will be driven to a strapless bra. I would personally feel much more secured with a longline strapless bra that would ensure you that your bra stays in place all day long and doesn’t slide down while dancing. It is your very special day, and you would not want those kinds of embarrassment spoiling the love story.
2. Bareback
The bareback. The back of those dresses is so low that even a criss-cross bra would be seen. Then your only option is the adhesives strapless bra. Depending on the quality and the brands they can support a very wide range of sizes. Often it cannot be reused a second time so when you place it, just be careful to not have to change its position.
3.Half bareback
The half bareback. Your dress got straps but the back is quite low. The best bra for those kinds of dress are bras with the back straps are crossing low on the back or crossing to close on your tummy. Depending on the quality of the fabric, either very thin silk or more structure fabric, you could choose a padded bra for an invisible look or a lace cup. Remember that even with the thinner chantilly lace, if your dress is made of think silk, the design of the lace can be seen through the bodice. You will have to test it with your dress to ensure an invisible look.
4. The short or long sleeves dress with normal back
Your dress has sleeves, normal back and normal shoulder, then you will have the most choice for your bra. In that case, the only thing to keep an eye on is the material of your dress and if your dress is see-through or non-see-through. What best with a beautiful dress to have a beautiful lace sheer bra to fit with. That bridal lingerie bra that will make your future husband has impressed with your dress as what is underneath. If your dress is in lace, you could opt for a lace bra (with nude lining underneath). These bras tend to blend in the lace of your dress and will not be noticeable. If your dress is in thin silk, you could have.
Your wedding day must be the happiest day of your life, and the choice of your lingerie might not ruin it but could annoy you to the point you will not enjoy it as much as you should.
Always choose lingerie that you feel confident in it. No need to add any worries. You must just feel beautiful, comfortable and confident, in order to just focus on your shared love.
